I have had a ton of fun lately. Between yard sales and thrift stores I thought I would be too tired for anything else, but oh no, I have discovered our local auction house!!!!! I have so much to show you at a future time when I have time to photograph. but for now I will just show you a little of what I have thrifted in the last couple weeks....<br /><br />I guess I'll start off with the pretty glassware above. I found all of these at the GW for about 50 cents each, except the boot which was a whopping 99 cents. Pretty aren't they? I believe the pilsner is a vintage possibly depression era Anchor Hocking. The little cordial glass has needle etching on it. All are pretty and their sparkle makes me smile. The boot is darling but I can't seem to find the right place for it. ugh. I wasn't about to leave that pretty boot in that dirty thrift store :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEOpemVHI/AAAAAAAAARY/uid6y7cT4-0/s1600-h/016.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782411282240626" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEOpemVHI/AAAAAAAAARY/uid6y7cT4-0/s320/016.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The quail (that might not be what they are, but that's what I call them) above are unpainted ceramic. I think I paid 79 cents each. The little chick I paired with them was 25 cents and he is lovely, shiny and iridescent.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEuL7b_CI/AAAAAAAAASI/8GqeOESOPPM/s1600-h/023.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782953105947682" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEuL7b_CI/AAAAAAAAASI/8GqeOESOPPM/s320/023.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I also found this very shabby landscape scene at the Salvation Army for I think 59 cents, with the heavy mirrored frame. It's a little bitty thing. Don't know where I'll hang it up yet. ugh<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEt9EOomI/AAAAAAAAASA/HlAm_Ugj3-U/s1600-h/025.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782949116289634" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEt9EOomI/AAAAAAAAASA/HlAm_Ugj3-U/s320/025.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Then at the Habitat Store I found this trivet with stunning cut glass and silver overlay. The picture does NOT do this piece justice. It's sooooo very beautiful. I wish I knew how old it is. Unmarked stuff makes me a bit crazy <sigh><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEvRZqDXI/AAAAAAAAASg/vIVbWIxBK50/s1600-h/021.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782971754745202" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEvRZqDXI/AAAAAAAAASg/vIVbWIxBK50/s320/021.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This sad lil bird sat at the Habitat store waiting for me to take him home for a few weeks. I finally did the right thing and took him home and he has charmed me. I named him Leopold and am not sure why, but he needed a name and that's what I decided he wanted to be. How did I not notice how pretty he is the first 3 or 4 times I left him in that dirty store. He has forgiven me though :)<br /><br />I am soooo tempted to take off his badly chipping paint, to show off his lovely crazing, but alas I can't do that to him. Isn't he lovely? I have no idea what kind of bird he is, do you?<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEPt5cQFI/AAAAAAAAARw/uqoJKugpNJw/s1600-h/019.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782429648437330" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEPt5cQFI/AAAAAAAAARw/uqoJKugpNJw/s320/019.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I had to work out of town and went to a lil flea market I had googled. I was expecting a normal size flea, but this had roughly 6 booths. I saw these adorable atomizers staring at me from one lady's shelf. The lady asked if I noticed that each one had a broken eyelash. I told her I had and that I didn't mind provided the price was right. She said $3 for both, I said, "sold!" They are soooo cute. They remind me of Betty Davis. They have this mark on the bottom.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEQFNOzSI/AAAAAAAAAR4/h2lOd0uI5rs/s1600-h/020.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782435905457442" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEQFNOzSI/AAAAAAAAAR4/h2lOd0uI5rs/s320/020.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I bought this clock at the Salvation Army for 99 cents. It's so much prettier than it looks in the picture. I now have an official collection of vintage clocks. <sigh>I soooo swore I wouldn't have another collection. Who am I kidding?<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEPF3e-8I/AAAAAAAAARg/fS6-n7Dgt5c/s1600-h/018.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449782418902809538" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GEPF3e-8I/AAAAAAAAARg/fS6-n7Dgt5c/s320/018.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Recently I explored some thrift stores that are a lil further out than I am used to. I also hit my first estate sale ever on a whim when I saw the sign. my trip was not in vain.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDkyfMYJI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/Z73vdgmxUKw/s1600-h/002.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449781692146147474" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDkyfMYJI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/Z73vdgmxUKw/s320/002.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDkhB3IoI/AAAAAAAAAQw/RIVE3Uo94OQ/s1600-h/001.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 240px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449781687459717762" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDkhB3IoI/AAAAAAAAAQw/RIVE3Uo94OQ/s320/001.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The rusty scale was from the St Vincent de Paul thrift, it was $5. Which is more than I would normally pay for anything, but look at that beauty! The shoes I got at the estate sale, along with a silk baby bonnet and some crochet baby clothes for 50 cents!!! Yipee!<br /><br />Then I was on to the yard sales, oh the yard sales were heavenly...<br /><br />I found these unmarked shelf brackets type thingees that I lurved! They have mermaids on them :) They were a whopping $2 for both! They were screwed to this horribly water damaged particle board monstrosity. I had to free them of that eyesore promptly upon getting them home. Well truth be told Mr. Nifty was put to the task. I had to rest my feet. The yard sales had tired them out. :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDlyK2RDI/AAAAAAAAARI/gKd_B_OMlkE/s1600-h/007.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449781709240681522" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDlyK2RDI/AAAAAAAAARI/gKd_B_OMlkE/s320/007.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDlQ5makI/AAAAAAAAARA/66WdXCbhbS0/s1600-h/004.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449781700309969474" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S6GDlQ5makI/AAAAAAAAARA/66WdXCbhbS0/s320/004.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This same guy also sold me this beauty for $3...I love her sooooo much! But if I wanted to stock up on Chinese ware I could shop the vast abyss that is my local Walmart. (I avoid Walmart like the plague) I do love me some things made in Germany, West Germany, England, Poland, Czechoslovakia , Japan and of course the great ol' U S of A.<br /><br />I recently attended a decent yard sale in a very dark storage unit of some sort. It was cold, wet and had something for everyone. I had a few boxes of stuff already stacked and ready to be paid for. When suddenly, in spite of my preconceived notions and general aversion, I spotted her...<br /><br />She was so pretty and proud sitting atop of box of vinyl binders.<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kn27OWII/AAAAAAAAANY/0WcgQ7u7lac/s1600-h/079.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444751479179991170" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kn27OWII/AAAAAAAAANY/0WcgQ7u7lac/s200/079.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I moved in and almost knocked a few people down to get to her. The man perusing the binders seemed a little quizzical when I picked her up and asked how much? $1.00 was the reply and the yard sale lady seemed ready for a haggle. SOLD. <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kodjsRlI/AAAAAAAAANo/aIw3huHvMM4/s1600-h/082.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444751489550272082" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kodjsRlI/AAAAAAAAANo/aIw3huHvMM4/s200/082.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I was willing to get past the sordid tattoo on her rump. It might say "MADE IN CHINA" but it says it with style. Isn't that a pretty mark? Frankly, I've never seen a mark like it and she is obviously not new. She has been aged perfectly for me :) What about you, ever seen that mark before?<br />I just lurve her.<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyWdL4JI/AAAAAAAAAN4/mnbFBZtXAXQ/s1600-h/084.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444751659442626706" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyWdL4JI/AAAAAAAAAN4/mnbFBZtXAXQ/s200/084.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The Salvation Army has been very kind to me lately. You ever see something you know is meant to come home with you? You like it, but don't buy it for whatever reason.<br /><br />This cast iron ladle, wall pocket whatnot had been moved all over the store. Every time I stopped in, there she was looking all chippy pretty in some new dusty corner of the store. Mind you, I generally go every other day. I usually only have a few dollars and that thrift store only takes cash, so there always seemed to be something I wanted more than the giant ladle. Then came the day that I found nothing at all. The store was picked clean, but there she was sitting on top of shoes this time. I paid the whopping $1.99 and now she is at home waiting for a pretty place to hang. I have no idea what I'm gonna do with the ol' gal, but I think she's glad she was rescued.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyUGVrRI/AAAAAAAAAOA/Nbx8c5nBsBw/s1600-h/086.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444751658809928978" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyUGVrRI/AAAAAAAAAOA/Nbx8c5nBsBw/s200/086.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyBzJBMI/AAAAAAAAANw/7kmqCXUEfQI/s1600-h/083.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444751653897569474" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4-kyBzJBMI/AAAAAAAAANw/7kmqCXUEfQI/s200/083.jpg" /></a><br /><br /></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div><div>I'll end it with a few white pretties I found too. I like everything and am drawn to the rusty industrial as well as the feminine. This sometimes creates a lil issue with Mr. Nifty who doesn't want the house covered in pink spaghetti trimmed figurines. <hmph><br /><br />Anyhow...my solution is, when something is deemed too girlie or I can't find just the right fit elsewhere I simply go off and decorate my daughter's room. Having a 5 year old daughter is fantastic for decorating. She likes what I like and she voices no concerns about "our" newest treasures. I keep anything fragile on shelves out of her reach, so I needn't worry about her breaking something I love...oops I mean hurting herself.<br /></p><p align="left">She loves boxes of any sort, and I have to watch out because she fills them with the strangest things: rocks, dirt, acorns, stickers, etc.</p><div align="left">Here are some of the niftiest recent thrifting finds that ended up in there :)<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZwEyQ8xrI/AAAAAAAAALg/kx9IEast9EE/s1600-h/068.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442160427238475442" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZwEyQ8xrI/AAAAAAAAALg/kx9IEast9EE/s200/068.jpg" /></a><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left">She had been wanting another jewelry box and I lurved this one when I found it at the Habitat store, the music box still worked :) It's all grungy and girlie all in one, just like my lil one :)<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZwEvSRVmI/AAAAAAAAALY/9qeO62MEzXA/s1600-h/067.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442160426438710882" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZwEvSRVmI/AAAAAAAAALY/9qeO62MEzXA/s200/067.jpg" /></a><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">On the same trip I spied this lil box (about 5") hiding among a pile of modern cookie and popcorn tins.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZzpkBkDrI/AAAAAAAAALw/Djg3uxW2pxo/s1600-h/074.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442164357605887666" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4ZzpkBkDrI/AAAAAAAAALw/Djg3uxW2pxo/s200/074.jpg" /></a><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div><br /><div align="left">That ribbon was calling my name. Top is silver plate and the bottom lead crystal. ( I only know this because I found an auction page where they sold the same one and described her, they said she was from the 50's too :)<br />I paid 50 cents for her.<br /><br />This is probably why she was 50 cents...she looks like got punched in the face a few times, plus her silver plate is rubbed off. I eyed it at Goodwill for a couple days before buying it. The antique photo of the baby inside (sorry not pictured) is adorable, but when I opened up the frame looking for any names on the back of the baby, I instead found this lovely ink sketch copy someone named Emma did of the famous Gibson Girl picture. My daughter chose that one to display in her room. So now Emma's pretty drawing is no longer hidden behind the mystery baby and my lil one enjoys looking at her.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4Z3LKGsYjI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/wKOEeES0fg4/s1600-h/127.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442168233298518578" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4Z3LKGsYjI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/wKOEeES0fg4/s200/127.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div>Lastly is a recent and expensive to me find. By expensive I mean I paid 5.00 for a book that is literally falling apart. I couldn't resist buying it. It's a book by Tennyson from 1898 titled Violets. It was given in much the same way we give greeting cards today. This one was personalized, but I can't understand the handwriting.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4Z5nNlY-aI/AAAAAAAAAMo/pimsB9Mh6HQ/s1600-h/088.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442170914292169122" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4Z5nNlY-aI/AAAAAAAAAMo/pimsB9Mh6HQ/s200/088.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"></div>It has a short poem for every day of the month and every single page has illustrated violets. I actually didn't buy it right away because it was 4.99 and I wasn't sure about it. I am generally not a big spender on my treasures. lol obviously.<br /><br />It waited for me a whole week until I decided it was meant to be mine. Deep down I knew it wanted to come home with me. How sad that someone won this tennis trophy back in 1972 and now it sat tarnished, scratched and unloved in the thrift store. But alas it is mine now.<br /><br />It's a rather large heavy piece. It now occupies the place of honor on my lil silver shelf. I wonder who it originally belonged to? I tried looking up the tennis event but found nothing :( This piece for now will keep his history to himself, at least until I can find out more...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2oBnbZJI/AAAAAAAAAKU/J2BaxBGZY0U/s1600-h/134.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440689886096745618" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2oBnbZJI/AAAAAAAAAKU/J2BaxBGZY0U/s200/134.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2qP3ZrOI/AAAAAAAAAKs/w0h8FDJfgl0/s1600-h/138.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440689924281576674" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2qP3ZrOI/AAAAAAAAAKs/w0h8FDJfgl0/s200/138.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2pffLkuI/AAAAAAAAAKk/MGMbaXv2vtI/s1600-h/135.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440689911295087330" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4E2pffLkuI/AAAAAAAAAKk/MGMbaXv2vtI/s200/135.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This week I am participating in <a href="http://diane1876.blogspot.com/2010/02/2nd-time-around-flea-market-scenes.html">Second Time Around Tuesday </a>hosted by Dianne at <a href="http://diane1876.blogspot.com/">A Picture Is Worth A 1000 Words.</a> So head on over and join the fun, there is wonderful eye candy to be seen and enjoyed. <a href="http://diane1876.blogspot.com/2010/02/2nd-time-around-flea-market-scenes.html"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441420427400573442" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S4PPDIDD8gI/AAAAAAAAAK0/p3n6NznzW34/s200/2ndtime.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />-brightest blessings-<br />Karinathasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-78056907113969123532010-02-17T21:07:00.006-05:002010-02-17T21:46:47.344-05:00I won a fabulous giveaway<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yoiLj40-I/AAAAAAAAAJs/M41rwb3ek7M/s1600-h/003.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yoiLj40-I/AAAAAAAAAJs/M41rwb3ek7M/s200/003.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439407755129050082" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I won my first giveaway!!!! It's beautiful and I have the <a href="http://thetinrabbit.blogspot.com/">Tin Rabbit</a> to thank for it. Yesterday I was contending with my 7 year <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">old's</span> case of strep throat and my 5 years <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">old's</span> killer ear infection. I was on no sleep and frankly quite a bit grumpy when the doorbell rings and my kindly postal lady gave me the most lovely box. I have never seen such a lovely mailing label on a box.<br /><br />It cheered me up and even my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">lil</span> ones who were miserable had fun helping me open up the goodies. She went all out on my prize. I was so touched by her care in packaging. Everything was scented too :) It was a feast for the senses. Oh and she sent chocolate, but there are no pics of those. I sorta ate those right away :)<br /><br />I apologize in advance for taking horrible pictures, with work and sick kids it's really hard to get pictures in the beautiful morning light. The pictures do not in any way do them any justice. She sent 5 of her glorious beautiful handmade roses and a beautiful handmade <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">victorian</span> candy box. She is beyond talented! Her attention to detail is incredible. I wish I had that kinda talent.<br /><br />I haven't found the perfect spot yet so I sorta put some stuff together for a quick photo session. Please go to her blog and check out her stuff. She is an inspiration and I am so grateful for her generosity. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. It made a tired and grumpy mom very happy!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yoisNAZGI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/lo3ljO3qfcM/s1600-h/012.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yoisNAZGI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/lo3ljO3qfcM/s200/012.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439407763891446882" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yojA2E0lI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/8MMSvjkPeos/s1600-h/014.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3yojA2E0lI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/8MMSvjkPeos/s200/014.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439407769432412754" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />As always - brightest blessings to everyone and <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">of course</span> to my friend Tin Rabbit -thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-15905355451646493962010-02-16T07:51:00.025-05:002010-02-18T07:47:48.412-05:00Vintage yard sale stash plus a WTH item<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qcmRuL_uI/AAAAAAAAAFU/dyxd_vc0as0/s1600-h/029.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438831681409384162" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qcmRuL_uI/AAAAAAAAAFU/dyxd_vc0as0/s200/029.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Well I mentioned the yard sale that consoled me from my auction loss. I almost didn't stop, as it did not look at all promising, plus it was about 4:00 so I imagined there wasn't much left. But stop I did. Everything was nicely arranged on a few tables and you would think her prices would be high, BUT the yard sale gods were kind and she was dirt cheap. She said she was cleaning out her cluttered house and had a lot of her late mom's stuff to dispose of. She had inherited a lot and was parting with the stuff that she was not attached to.<br /><br />I cleaned her out of linens and took a huge chunk of her costume jewelry. I have never been into jewelry but these were grand.<br /><br />I think these are all cocktail napkins, but maybe they are hankies. How does one tell the difference? I do know they are divine and appear unused! I did read that cocktail napkins often have roosters on em, as folks found it quite witty to have "cock" tail napkins. Am I the only immature one who smirks at that?<br /><br />The rooster napkins are a set of 6 I think, I paid 50 cents.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qddLLdMiI/AAAAAAAAAFc/QNW6apSvbx8/s1600-h/030.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438832624545903138" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qddLLdMiI/AAAAAAAAAFc/QNW6apSvbx8/s200/030.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />The cherry napkins said set of six, but once I got them home realized there were 8, and also got em for 50 cents. She explained that they provide ventilation whilst baking a pie. I used to bake a great deal and though I had never heard of them, I had to have em. These were made in England. I've now realized they were quite a steal at 50 cents each :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qgHzB961I/AAAAAAAAAF8/dOrXcL95fz8/s1600-h/035.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438835555821284178" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qgHzB961I/AAAAAAAAAF8/dOrXcL95fz8/s200/035.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Then I saw yet another silverplate tray to add to my collection :) Can you ever have enough of these? You can still see the price on this beauty. Cheaper than my local thrifts where they are asking between 4 and 10 generally.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qgzBvyw0I/AAAAAAAAAGE/z05SzaEU4uA/s1600-h/128.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438836298505962306" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qgzBvyw0I/AAAAAAAAAGE/z05SzaEU4uA/s200/128.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Then I spotted my favorite of all thrifty stuff that day...the vintage though unfinished child's Christmas apron. It was the brightest happiest thing I'd seen all day. I needed some Christmas cheer. I don't care that it's February. I swear this would have made the yard sale rock even without all the other niftyness. Plus it too was 50 cents, see a pattern yet? :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qh5rm68KI/AAAAAAAAAGM/JBtpvnbbFPo/s1600-h/052.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438837512333881506" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qh5rm68KI/AAAAAAAAAGM/JBtpvnbbFPo/s200/052.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />check out the tushy :)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qi2UUOObI/AAAAAAAAAGU/LxuoGnfGB4o/s1600-h/054.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438838554053458354" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qi2UUOObI/AAAAAAAAAGU/LxuoGnfGB4o/s200/054.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Then I was on to the jewelry. She had her jewelry marked at 50 cents a set. 50 cents is such a fabulous price isn't it? Here are the ones I picked out :) Pretty aren't they? I assure you the picture does not do the pieces justice! The green stone ones on the bottom left are Trifari. There is also a Vendome set on the top row. I LOVE the sterling mongrammed ones. Can't make out the letters well, but who cares. I never saw a monogram I didn't love. These were almost all in perfect condition.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qi24se2kI/AAAAAAAAAGc/uRdPoJXbF9Y/s1600-h/100.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438838563818887746" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qi24se2kI/AAAAAAAAAGc/uRdPoJXbF9Y/s200/100.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This set was just delicious in all her lavender glory. They are unmarked. I think they look like fireflies.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qkn_HhK8I/AAAAAAAAAHM/Z3COm6ZPGyg/s1600-h/126.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438840506868116418" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qkn_HhK8I/AAAAAAAAAHM/Z3COm6ZPGyg/s200/126.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />This brooch is the only one with damage, but she was beautiful and couldn't resist her. It's missing a couple rhinestones and the bottom piece is attached with a string. The back is marked Hollycraft copr 1957.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qknt2kw3I/AAAAAAAAAHE/B0IE5HIfLUw/s1600-h/125.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438840502233645938" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qknt2kw3I/AAAAAAAAAHE/B0IE5HIfLUw/s200/125.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Wouldn't you agree that this was a fantastic little yard sale? Oh I picked up two unbuilt car models for Mr. Nifty too, they were a whopping $3 each but they were from the 50's and would look great in his collection. Those models meant I wouldn't get a lecture about bringing home more stuff. :) or as he calls it: junk.<br /><br />I would have taken a picture of them, BUT they were quickly taken to the Mr. Nifty's lair, the garage.<br /><br />Now on to my WTH mystery find at the yard sale. These were 50 cents each and I bought both. They are round as you can see and they sorta look like a sand dollar because of the little loops in the center. Those are loops not embroidery. They have very delicate ric rack edges, and they have what look like pockets or dividers that go all the way around. What could this possibly be used for? Any ideas??????? The yard sale lady said they were doilies, but I really doubt that. Why would they be so complex then? They seem utilitarian more than decorative. Input would be most appreciated as this is making me nuts not knowing. I have a habit of researching everything that comes home with me and this is my newest mystery. anyone care to tell me WTH it is?<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qjOabFcLI/AAAAAAAAAGs/m3jEpJiUhzI/s1600-h/028.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 150px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438838968009715890" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qjOabFcLI/AAAAAAAAAGs/m3jEpJiUhzI/s200/028.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qjOAKhMeI/AAAAAAAAAGk/IuqnIvYrEk4/s1600-h/027.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; WIDTH: 200px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438838960960909794" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_noOUaqW5ohA/S3qjOAKhMeI/AAAAAAAAAGk/IuqnIvYrEk4/s200/027.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Today, I have joined up with:<br />Vintage Thingies Thursdays with the very kind <a href="http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2010/02/vintage-thingies-thursday-vintage.html">Suzanne</a> aka Coloradolady.<br />And in the same vein I joined Leigh's party at <a href="http://lbratina.blogspot.com/2010/02/thrifty-thursday-53-plus-tablescape.html">Tales from Bloggeritaville </a>for Thrifty Thursday.<br /><br />There are fantastic things to see at both. I hope I am doing this right. I am learning more and more everyday about blogging. Now if only I could figure out picture posting, I'd be one happy lady.<br /><br />I have joined up with:<br />Vintage Thingies Thursdays with the very kind <a href="http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/search/label/Vintage%20Thingies%20Thursdays">Suzanne</a> aka <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Coloradolady</span>.<br />And in the same vein I joined Leigh's party at <a href="http://lbratina.blogspot.com/2010/02/thrifty-thursday-52-plus-tablescape.html">Tales from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Bloggeritaville</span> </a>for Thrifty Thursday.<br /><br />There are fantastic things to see at both. It's a wonderful opportunity to remind my children and even Mr. Nifty of how important family and loved ones really are.<br /><br />So anyhow...on a recent <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">treck</span> to my local Habitat store I spotted this here <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">lil</span> basket. I assume someone not too long ago made this with a generic crafting basket. I can't tell if this someone used real vintage Valentines to decoupage or reprints. I can't find dates, only made in the USA on some of them. I shall assume they are not vintage. The buttons decorating the handles do look vintage though. It was charming and I paid a whopping 50 cents for it. :)<br /><br />My 5 year old daughter claimed it. Can you blame her?<br />It had a surprise matching box tucked inside and also had a coaster size doily too.<br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/091-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/091-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div align="left"><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/093-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/093-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div align="left"><br /><br />Next nifty find is my chippy <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">lil</span> Shriner planter. Isn't he a handsome <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">ol'</span> bloke? His paint has obviously seen better days, but strangely enough his face is handsome as ever. Frankly his man-makeup is more artfully applied than my own :) He needs a name, but I am drawing a blank...any ideas?<br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/095-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/095-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/097-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/097-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />::::Drum roll please::::<br />My absolute favorite thrift store find EVER, looks vintage to me and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">squeaks</span> like an oldie, but don't know how to tell exactly. Do you?<br /><br />The reasons I am left to wonder: there are no markings that I can find. I think it did say USA on one of the metal pieces, but no labels or companies. Secondly the distressing on the back seems a bit off to me. It seems to all be concentrated in the back. Is that normal? What do you think? I know reproductions are made, so if anyone knows the difference please drop me a line. Either ways she is beautiful and I certainly wasn't robbed. I declare her the niftiest find yet.<br /><br />After the pics I'll tell ya what I paid for her...and yes, she is most <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">definitely</span> a girl <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">cuz</span> she is so <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">perty</span> :)<br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/147-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/147-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/148-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/148-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/146-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/146-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/149-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/149-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/145-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/145-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/143-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/143-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />(That's my 125lb <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">Neapolitan</span> Mastiff getting a tan in the background :)<br /><br /><a href="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/152-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 240px; float: left; height: 320px;" alt="" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/152-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Isn't she glorious? The <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16">thrifting</span> gods were kind and sent me this divine intervention. Hopefully the cats won't find a way to claw this one though I wouldn't put it past them.<br /><br />PS...she was $4.99. How's that for a bargain?<br />Anyhow thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again :)<br />~Brightest blessings~<br /><br />Karina aka <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17">thasnifty</span> </div></div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-81916604932838059422010-02-07T14:19:00.013-05:002010-02-07T20:28:48.589-05:00Decoupaged rappers and other auction goodies...I went to my first auction this weekend. It was a good learning experience, but I came home empty handed. <sigh>. Even worse is, I didn't think to bring my camera. Fret not, I will always bring my camera for such occasions from here on in.<br /><br />I was outbid at $8.00. Yes I said, EIGHT dollars. This was a storage unit auction so they don't work like traditional auctions. I had gone for the purpose of just seeing what it was like. I was shocked no one was bidding on what seemed to me the only lot with promise. I do not lie when I say that I watched someone bid on a particle board entertainment center that was literally falling apart. The lot that this "gentleman" bid on also included one piece of generic tupperware and a bottle of some sort that had magazine pictures of rappers cut out and glued onto it. I assure you this travesty of crafting was not worthy of being called decoupage. But it made for a nifty title. It was not skillfully done and was probably a high school art project or something. Anyhow, the lot went for 15 dollars. (TWO people actually bid on it.)I was aghast but riveted. I was now hellbent on seeing what weirdos actually spent real money on.<br /><br />Someone actually bid $3 on a mattress set like nothing I have ever seen before. I do not exaggerate when I say that it looked like not one, but maybe 5 or 6 people might have met an unfortunate death on that bed and quite possibly by grenade or some such equally messy means. It was so bad, that even the rapper bottle buyer, looked over to see who actually bid on it. but even worse is, it too had two bidders, cuz the bidding started at 1 and ended at 3. ugh.<br /><br />Then came the lot that had the cool looking stuff. This unit was split into a few lots. I liked the one with boxes of goodies. I saw china, Pyrex, linens, papers, glassware, kitchenware and other stuff. I was thinking that the resellers and dealers would be bidding on this stuff for sure. (I had seen two of our local dealers in the crowd) The auctioneer started at $5, and nothing. I looked around the crowd of about 30 and I saw a few people yawn. $4, nothing, $3, nothing, $2 nothing, $1 nothing....up goes my hand. Mr. Nifty looks at me rather surprised. Suddenly a lady across the way decides she wants the lot too...ugh. I briefly considered saying WTF loudly, (but with real words) when I thankfully I remembered I was in a crowd. Maybe shoving her would stop her?<br /><br />Before I knew it, my heart was racing, palms were sweating and I sooooooo wanted to keep going. But I hadn't planned for it, had no idea when I should stop or how much I should spend. I panicked when she bid EIGHT FRIGGIN DOLLARS. I turned around and walked away.<br /><br />Mr. Nifty was impressed at my self control. It was not self control it was mostly stage fright. Auctions are dangerous places. I can see that I would have easily kept bidding. I literally left the auction, and in a bad mood to boot. lol. I was robbed. I think I would have cried if I'd seen that woman opening the boxes that were almost certainly full of precious goodies.<br /><br />I think auctions might be a lil too anxiety provoking for me. I was able to redeem myself by finding some great stuff at a yard sale later that day. I'll post those pics later this week, so keep a look out. Next I'll have to learn about estate sales.<br /><br />Ok so it's been a pretty long time since I posted. I honestly haven't posted because I had not taken pictures of the stuff I had found thrifting and such. But let me explain, I was getting increasingly frustrated with how horrible the pictures were on my blog. I read up on picture taking and finally had a marathon picture taking session. So here is a few of my latest finds...<br /><br />a bushell basket, a ram planter, a made in England peerage style pitcher...<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />here's a closeup of the stein, it's some sort of old advertising mug. I got it for 25 cents and the two toile napkins were 10 cents...<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=024.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/024.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />I lurve the colors of the toile. One is badly stained though with mysterious brown stuff, rust, age, ????<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=022.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/022.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=021.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/021.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />I also found this fantastic wire basket, pretty figurine for my daughter's room, one solitary glove, and some sort of very small hanging dowel. Anyone know if that has specific purpose? I think I paid 1.00 for everything.<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=012.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/012.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />I wonder what is supposed to go in the hole in her hand? any ideas?<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/?action=view¤t=013.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/013.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><br /><br />And last but not least for today....here is a closeup of the kitchen towel that I found. Darling Mr. Nifty took me shopping for last minute Xmas gifts and well I ended up shopping for me, A LOT. He took me to Jacksonville and as I won't drive that far unless I really really have to, I was thrilled to get out of the confines of my 3 miserable lil thrift stores. I hit the flea market, 3 or 4 garage sales and 3 different thrift stores.<br /><br />Here is just a small part of my haul...(oh and sorry for the pics, I am just getting home too late from work to take a decent picture.)<br /><br />At a garage sale I found this pretty lil pair for 25 cents each. Their faces and other details have a shiny glaze but the rest of them is semi gloss. They are a beautiful emerald green. I love them! They remind me of my dear and very missed mother whose birth stone was emerald. (plus I got all the trees on the cake stand for between 10-50 cents each. Some are vintage some are newer. the cake stand was a whopping $3.00 and my most expensive buy this weekend!)<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/008.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I got this tray for 25 cents and thought it was soooo perty. I am still not quite sure where I want to put it, maybe next year I will find a decent place for it. It seems to get lost in all the Christmas clutter :)<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=009.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/009.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Oh the ceramic tree was 50 cents, no chips and almost all the bulbs were there. I took the loose ones off, and put em in a bag for safe keeping for now. It had no light fixture. I want a white one now :)<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=005.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/005.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The empty Shiny Brite box came out to 50 cents. (the cellophane is a lil ripped at the bottom) and I filled it with ornaments that needed safekeeping and display place all at once. :) I have yet to find a Shiny Brite but I am pleased with the other vintage Christmas ornies I have found. No complains.<br /><br />"Mr Christmas" Glass Ornaments in the box were 25 cents and green Made in Japan ceramic sleigh for 50 cents were both from the Humane Society Thrift Store (all Xmas stuff was 50 percent off)<br />Stenciled atomic symbol ornament 10 cents at the flea. (dome in the front)<br />Made in Poland indent (the pink and purple one under the dome in the back) was 10 cents at a thrift.<br />Pack of vintage gift tags that is unopened was 25 cents at the antique mall. (Mr. Nifty won't let me open it, ugh) I can't see the other designs in there otherwise. :(<br /><br />I might not have a feather tree or a lovely aluminum one, but I did find this at my last stop of the weekend...<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=015-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/015-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />It's pretty eh? I paid one dollar for it. It just need a lil fluffing (and a lil glue)It's plastic of some sort with glass or plastic pieces all over and glitter in there too. Hard to explain. But it sparkles and will look so pretty with more sparkly stuff next year. I need to glue her a lil stronger before I can hang ornies on her. She is glorious all on her own. Oh and the lil doohickies next to her base I found at the flea for a buck. Mr. Nifty said they're tacky, but I don't think he really meant it. :)</div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-3115959801050448792009-12-18T22:14:00.006-05:002009-12-22T06:14:38.498-05:00Rescuing two Christmas pretties.<div align="left">Wanted to show you my two favorite rescues this holiday season. I freed them from the dark dingy clutches of my local Habitat store.<br /><br />First are these "Christmas Package Decorations" that I am assuming are meant to be the three kings. I found these about a week ago. I believe they have spun cotton heads but am new to this, so I could be wrong. I paid a whopping 10 cents for em, which is quite a markdown from their original 38 cent price AND look at the great Santa graphics on the packaging! Beautiful!<br />Fantastc lil find eh?<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=011.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/011.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Then I noticed it...my lil kings seemed to have an ummmm upside down smile...and by upside down smiles I mean they look more than a little hostile.<br /><br />Have a look. I'll wait for ya.<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=tickedkings.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/tickedkings.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />need a closer look?<br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=tickedkings2-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/tickedkings2-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Maybe they resent the fact that they were stuck in that packaging for all these years, never to adorn a christmas package as they were intended. I've explained to them that now they will reside in a place of honor in my living room, where their lil faces will hopefully bring a chuckle to those that look close enough. I think deep down they are happy...<br />really deep down.<br /><br />Afterall, what's Christmas without a little "Bah Humbug?"<br /><br />My second favorite rescue is this bunch of tiny vintage glass ornaments on pipe cleaner. They are small, don't let the picture fool you. I know this is not the proper name for them, I just can't recall what they are called...anyone care to refresh me? Anyhow...I almost stepped on one at the habitat store, ugh. I started looking in the vicinity and saw an ugly basket with some hideous newish christmas stuff and spotted some sparkle, started pulling out the ugly new stuff and found several more at the bottom. Thankfully it was a small wastebasket and I pulled out all of these. I didn't see anymore on the floor and was pretty pleased with my lil treasure. Another whopping 10 cents. :)<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=pretties.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/pretties.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Funny thing is, I wen't back today and scored a few more pretty things, and low and behold spotted another one of these tiny pretties on the floor in another part of the store. I wonder how many more are lurking in the back.</div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-80503078464249994252009-12-18T21:30:00.005-05:002009-12-22T06:14:50.411-05:00My travels through blogland and a few giveaways I entered.<div align="left">It's been a lovely Friday. Went to a local senior home where my son's boyscout troup was going to sing carols and hand out presents. It was lovely and ofcourse more than a bit sad. I wanted to take every vintage lady and gent home with me.<br /><br />Then I came home and read some blogs, found a few news ones to inspire me and entered a few giveaways. (Join the fun when you have a minute)<br /><br />If you've been searching for that perfect crown, not a big clumsy one (I hate big clumsy crowns don't you? ), but a delicate snowflake of a crown, one fit for even the daintiest snow pixies...then you absolutely must meander over to <a href="http://coastalsistersnews.blogspot.com/2009/12/new-giveawayagain.html">Lulu's blog</a> and take a peek at the sweetest lil crown.<br /><br />After enjoying the crown and thinking of all the lovely places in my home it might look pretty, I was I was on to the French Charming blog by: Karyn. This place is very very ooh la la. She posted several giveaways. I loved <a href="http://frenchcharming.blogspot.com/">this</a> blog, even if I did fail French in High School. :)<br /><br />The Sweet "N" Crafty blog by Carlyann was full of fabulous paper craftiness. She is having a great giveaway. Find her wonderful blog and enjoy the prettiness <a href="http://sweetncrafty.blogspot.com/2009/11/71000-hits-mega-christmas-new-year.html">here.</a><br /><br />Then I was off to a <a href="http://acharminghome.blogspot.com/2009/12/pink-give-away.html">Charming Home </a>for a pink Christmas giveaway. I have NOTHING in pink <sigh>Someday the thrifting Gods will take pity on me, well if I don't win that is :)<br /><br />Now I am off to find some of today's thrift haul pics to post :)</div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-68627806011509622642009-12-13T20:17:00.002-05:002009-12-22T06:15:01.333-05:00Tommy Lee Jones Santa<div align="left">I was looking at my pictures of Christmas stuff, wondering who you might like to meet when it dawned on me that you would certainly want to meet another one of my recent acquisitions. He is a tiny little flocked Santa pick whose main claim to fame here is the fact that I've decided he bears a resemblance to Tommy Lee Jones.<br /><br />I think he is a little flattered at my comparison and though Santa is ofcourse a humble soul, I like to think he is tickled at the notion. What do you think?<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=santa.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="xmas, thrift" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/santa.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=jones_tommy_lee.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="WIDTH: 232px; HEIGHT: 311px" height="318" alt="Photobucket" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/jones_tommy_lee.jpg" width="226" border="0" /></a><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=santa2.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="xmas, thrift" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/santa2.jpg" border="0" /></a></div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4925539631830411239.post-26747757289085196262009-12-12T20:39:00.002-05:002009-12-22T06:15:11.908-05:00It's the hap-hapiest season of all!<div align="left">I guess I'll start this blog's first post with my reason for entering blogland. I have some deep issues where Christmas is concerned. Well my husband thinks they're deep issues. Frankly, I admit to loving virtually everything about this most wonderful time of the year. I love everything Christmas represents and am often slightly aghast when others are not enthusiastic about such a magical time.<br /><br />I feel most alive in December. I remember to enjoy every day a little more, to hug my kids a little tighter, to appreciate the fact that hubby is willing to climb on the roof just to give me the lights that I cannot imagine not having up. <em>(How else will Santa find the house?!)</em><br /><br /><em><strong>"Its the most wonderful time of the year....It's the hap-happiest season of all!"</strong></em><br /><br />One of my other great loves is bargain hunting by way of thrifting, garage sales, curb crawling, etc. I've had some good luck finding some gems this year. I love thrifted Christmas stuff! A little chip here and there rarely phases me, especially not where Christmas things are concerned. I like the vintage pieces not because of their value (<em>trust my collection is worth pretty much what I paid for it</em>), but because I can only imagine how many Christmas mornings these pieces have been a part of. A little ding is just a testament to everyday life. Along with their nicks, chips, dings and scratches they bring a wonderful sense of history. Anyhow...let me introduce you to a couple of my thrifted treasures...<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=miniblowmolds.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="thrift, xmas" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/miniblowmolds.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />My first buys of the season. These little guys are 13" mini blow molds made in 1968. As they are labeled for indoor use only, I found them a lil corner of my living room where they oversee all the other Christmas thrifty friends that are gathered nearby. They make me smile just looking at them...and the $1.00 price made me smile too :)<br /><br /><a href="http://s833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/?action=view&current=angelbell-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="xmas, thrift" src="http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/thasnifty/xmas/angelbell-1.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This sweet singing angel bell is sweet as sugar cane. My daughter likes her because she has fancy gold wings. My son likes her because she's a bell and he really digs bells. I like her cause she's pretty and she was only 50 cents :)</div>thasniftyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17128110271645535326noreply@blogger.com1
